Imagine being instructed to avoid anyone who didn't attend your church, even your own extended family. You're told what to eat, what to wear, and discouraged from voting or seeking medical help. Independent thinking is frowned upon, and everything is sacrificed to be "in favor with God."
This is just a glimpse into life growing up in the Worldwide Church of God.
After being conditioned to follow orders without question, the process of "unlearning" can be incredibly challenging. The damage often runs deep, affecting the soul in ways that some may never fully recover from.
In this book, I share my personal journey in this organization, alongside another story of healing. I encourage readers to take charge of their healing journeys, emphasizing that it’s a process to undertake at their own pace.
The book is a quick read, featuring questions at the end of each chapter to prompt reflection, along with space for journaling. This structure encourages readers to engage with the material and explore their own thoughts and experiences.
Pamela "Pam" Redd’s journey illustrates the profound impact of education and service. Pam is certified as both a principal and superintendent by the Texas State Board for Educator Certification. She is an alumna of Leadership Houston and has completed the Rice University Educational Entrepreneurship Program (REEP).
Her work as an educator has been featured in Rice University’s White Paper: School Leaders as CEOs, The Seventy-Four, a national education publication and her profile was featured in Positive Black Images, "Redd Light: A profile on Houston elementary school principal Pamela Redd".
Her commitment to community service is evident through her past roles as PTO President and Secretary, her involvement with the Enrichment and Brotherhood of Northwest Youth, and her mentoring work with the "I Have a Dream" program, demonstrating her dedication to uplifting young people. Pam is also a proud member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Xi Alpha Omega chapter—the first historically African American sorority, founded in 1908. Additionally, she is an active member of the Lions Club International, specifically the Houston Lady Lions Club, where she serves as Treasurer and Financial Secretary. The Lions Club, with over 1.4 million members in 49,000 clubs worldwide, is committed to serving communities across the globe.
Recently, Pam became an author with her memoir, Finding and Reclaiming Yourself: A Memoir of Triumph After Being Disfellowshipped from the Worldwide Church of God. In it, she shares her own story of healing and encourages readers to take control of their healing journey, emphasizing that this is a journey to take at their own pace.
